The Bond House at 179 Runnymede Rd in West Caldwell, NJ, was built around 1820 by Samuel Bond, a teacher from Connecticut. The house expanded over the years, with the addition of a north portion in the 1830s and a four-room addition on the west side. It features discrete Georgian features typical of local landowners' homes. The original structure consisted of one room with a fireplace hearth and sleeping loft, while the north portion added eyebrow windows and a center hall with a staircase. The house showcases hand-split wooden lathes, hewn beams, and pegged construction. The clapboards are Connecticut-style rabbeted weatherboards.
